Paul Weller signed 1988 Rickenbacker 330 Custom Liechtenstein WHAAAM!!!
This guitar is truly one of a kind... There are a few Paul Weller signed Rickenbackers out there, but I know of none other in North America (the few others are in Europe/UK); only a few of those are dated by Weller himself, and none of them include a Liechtenstein-print Rickenbacker 330. The previous owner of this guitar had the custom paint job done after a meticulous study of Weller's original Liechtenstein print guitar--one of Weller's late 70's Fireglo 330's that had its neck broken and was never re-set to Weller's liking. He then had it custom painted by hand (somewhat sloppily, I might add, as I saw the original up close at the ABOUT THE YOUNG IDEA exhibit at Somerset House in London, summer of 2015). The guitar was only used a handful of times during The Jam for photo shoots or videos (e.g., Start!) where Weller rarely actually played the guitar, but posed with it for pics/videos... THIS guitar's finish looks like it came out of the factory--the paint/lacquer used were obviously top quality; the the graphic is vibrant, crisp, and clear.
The previous owner of this 1988 Jetglo Rickenbacker 330 (Lee) had it professionally redone after looking over numerous pics of Weller's custom original. Once completed, he pursued Paul Weller over the course of three year's worth of L.A.-area gigs during the late 2000's, hoping to get him to sign the guitar. After making a nuisance of himself long enough, he says, Weller finally relented, and came out after a show to look a the guitar. By Lee's account, Weller was "...stunned and exclaimed, 'This is spot on, mate!'", then signed it: "To Lee, Peace! Paul Weller 2010." Lee had it for seven years until he recently decided to put it up for sale. After negotiating with him for a few months, I finally managed to pry it loose from his Palos Verdes home, and here it sits on my wall...
The OLNY Paul Weller-signed Rickenbacker in North America is a meticulous Liechtenstein print to boot. This guitar comes with a Gibson Humbucker in the neck, a see-through pickguard, Schaller tuners, all just like the original. It also comes with a silver vintage reissue case. The paint job is immaculate, and she plays beautifully. An absolute pop art knockout. Yes, she's available... $8000
