1964 Rickenbacker Rose Morris (British Export) Model 1998
Someone I knew and admired from a FB Rickenbacker group happened to post a pic of this guitar of his, mentioning that he would be looking to sell it in the near future. As a long time early WHO fan, I fell instantly in love with it, but didn't have the cash on hand at the moment. However... When my Paisley 625 sold surprisingly a few weeks later, I snatched this old girl for a good price given that she had a high quality neck repair from decades ago which was completed structurally but unfinished (see pics). Once she arrived, I thought to have one of the very best Rickenbacker guys--Dale Fortune--do the work (see photos below documenting the before and after). Just a few weeks later, here she came--all buttoned up and clean as a whistle.
Yes, this a very rare May of 1964 Rose Morris Rickenbacker Model 1998 that made it past P.T. who destroyed more than a few of these in the early days of his band. This one shows evidence of nearly 60 years of hard gigging. The previous owner said he imported it from Liverpool where it had been since '64 (a good place for it to be, ay?). Today, she's perfectly solid--A straight-as- can-be neck, low action all the way up, and electronics that work perfectly. Everything's original on this guitar minus the trem bar and bridge cover I took from another 60's vintage Rickenbacker of mine. Also, Dale fashioned a new top shelf pickguard to replace the cracked original which is in the case. Speaking of the case, it's period-correct, but from Mesa, Arizona, not Liverpool. Otherwise... Holy Bejeezus, this guitar is a glorious piece of history for those of us who really appreciate what happened musically in the UK in the mid sixties. $9,000

...with her new blonde boyfriend, also from '64.
